City Calls for Artists for Commissioned Public Art

The City of Sebastopol and the Public Arts Committee, (PAC) are holding a commissioned art competition featuring professional artists living in the State of California for the design, fabrication, and installation of a permanent, original public art at the trailhead of the Joe Rodota Trail on Petaluma Avenue, which is a prominent location marking the entry to Sebastopol’s thriving downtown.  The commissioned art will have a budget of $25,000 from the City’s Art in-lieu fund.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: January 29, 2024, 3:00 p.m.

As of March 12th 2024,

The City of Sebastopol’s Public Art Committee has selected three finalists to further develop their proposal and present it to the public. A $1000 honorarium will be provided to the finalists who are selected and choose to continue in the process.

The City will make the three final proposals available for public review at a public location, and each finalist will be required to make a presentation at a public meeting of the Public Art Committee. After the public review period ends, the PAC will make a recommendation to the City Council who will then make a final selection. Only one artist will be chosen for the project and will enter in a contract with a budget for $25,000, which includes the design, fabrication, and installation of the artwork.

The Public Arts Committee (PAC) is looking for community input and would like to request for the public to comment on the three potential art pieces that will be presented by Bruce Johnson (Posthumous), Diego Harris, and Michael Per Erik Lindell.
