Nomination Period to Run for City Council Extended Through August 12

August 7, 2026, City News

Sebastopol, Calif, (5:01pm, August 7, 2026) – The filing period for non-incumbents for the office of City Council Member in the City of Sebastopol has been extended. Interested residents must file nomination papers for the November 3, 2026 General Municipal Election by the new deadline, August 12, 2026 during normal business hours (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) by appointment only.

In accordance with Elections Code 10225, if an incumbent does not file for re-election by the end of the nomination period, the nomination period is extended by 5 days. The nomination period is only extended for non-incumbent candidates. Because an incumbent did not file nomination papers, the filing period is now extended beyond the initial Aug. 7, 2026, deadline. The filing period for incumbents is now closed.

Any City of Sebastopol resident aged 18 or older who is registered to vote, eligible to take the oath of office, and unless otherwise specifically provided, qualified to vote for the office, can file nomination papers. To file, contact the City at mgourley@cityofsebastopol.gov.

Find complete details on the Elections and Voting page on the City of Sebastopol website here.

Appointments at the City Clerk’s office are required to receive and file nomination papers.

Submission period closes at 5pm on August 12
