Joint Statement from City of Sebastopol and Sonoma County Library on Temporary Closure of Sebastopol Library
June 5, 2026, City News
The City of Sebastopol and the Sonoma County Library are working together to evaluate an environmental concern at the Sebastopol Regional Library. The City has retained qualified experts to evaluate and conduct testing at the library. We do not anticipate receiving the results of that work until next week and will provide additional information on our websites and social media platforms once the findings have been reviewed.
The Sebastopol Library will remain closed to the public until any issues that may be found are corrected. Closure was initiated on June 4th in an abundance of caution, as protecting the health and safety of patrons and staff is our top priority. There are no indications that patrons or staff of the Sebastopol Library have been exposed to unsafe conditions. We will provide more information once it is available.
We are evaluating service impacts and alternative service options for the community. Currently, the plan is to do the following:
- Holds will be transferred to the Forestville Community Library at 7050 Covey Road (on the El Molino High School campus)
- Forestville hours have been extended as follows:
- Friday, June 5th: 11 AM to 7 PM
- Saturday: 10 AM to 6 PM
- Sunday: closed
- Monday: 11 AM to 7 PM
- If needed, SCL will continue to extend hours at Forestville depending upon test results
