Local Food Assistance: How to Get Help and How to Give Back
November 5, 2025, City News
As the cost of living continues to rise and cuts are made to SNAP and other benefits, local organizations are stepping up to ensure no one in our community goes hungry. Two key resources—COTS (Committee on the Shelterless) and the Redwood Empire Food Bank (REFB)—offer both immediate food support and opportunities for residents to make a difference.
Hot Meals at COTS
While Petaluma may be a bit of a drive from Sebastopol, anyone in need of a meal is welcome at the Mary Isaak Center, operated by COTS. The center serves hot lunch and dinner seven days a week, with no questions asked. Meals are available to go, and families can pick up as many as they need.
- Lunch: 11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.
- Dinner: 5–6 p.m.
- Location: Mary Isaak Center, 900 Hopper Street, Petaluma

Help and Hope Through the Redwood Empire Food Bank
The Redwood Empire Food Bank (REFB) continues to serve thousands of Sonoma County residents each month through local food distributions and partner agencies. Community members and businesses are invited to join in supporting this vital work.
Ways to help:
- Make a monetary donation: Financial gifts have the greatest impact, allowing REFB to purchase and distribute fresh, healthy food where it’s needed most.
- Donate food: Drop off non-perishable items at REFB or at local grocery stores with donation barrels.
- Host a food drive: Rally your workplace, school, or neighborhood to collect food for those in need.

Together, we can help ensure that every neighbor in Sonoma County has access to nourishing meals this season.
